Love in Action
Dear EC Week Family,
It’s hard to believe that it’s been less than a month since we heard the news about EC Week. I want people to know that we are working hard to understand our new reality and develop a path forward. Here is a quick update on where things stand.
The Friends of Fatima and Head Staff have met multiple times over the past few weeks to consider all our options going forward, while protecting everything that we have built to this point. We have received great legal and financial advice over that time which has allowed us to put in place a strong plan. This plan includes the creation of a new 501c3 entity which will ultimately be the organization to oversee a “new EC Week”. That entity is being created, as I write this, and we expect that it will be able to accept funds, both new donations and those entrusted to the Friends of Fatima, within a month.
We have also met with the Manchester Diocese, and they are amenable to a smooth transition of both our funds and property. Once the new entity is able, our funds will be transferred from the Diocese. We have a subcommittee of volunteers working on removing our property from camp. We also have a subcommittee exploring new camp locations, analyzing their availability, their capacity, their accessibility, their amenities, and their willingness to invite us in. We have had some good responses and are continuing that search and evaluation.
Although there is still much work to do, I hope that this update helps to lessen anxiety about our future. As sad as we are, this can be an opportunity to make EC Week even better than it was before. As we focus on making this new reality come to fruition, I would remind everyone to continue to refrain from media interactions. As always, if you have any ideas or help that you can provide, please reach out to me.
We have made a lot of progress in such a short amount of time, and I want to thank each of you for all that you do for our campers! Love in Action! Also, Michael McLaughlin is putting together an EC Week reunion for past, present and future volunteers and their families.
